Jo Small, Education Director at Optima Training, has been working for the past few years as a Business Language Champion. As part of her work in this role, she has joined forces with the Grove School in Newark to encourage pupils to take up languages. Their recent efforts and success contributed greatly to Optima winning the 2009 Newark Business Award for Commitment to the Community.
The Town Mayor of Newark, Mr Tony Roberts, will help The Grove School to launch their new language project as part of the celebrations for the European Day of Languages on 24th September this year. The project will be in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style “pitch”, seeing the Year 9 pupils work in teams to develop presentations and resources that will encourage others to take up learning a language. The teams can choose from the categories of Business, General Public or Primary School.
The judging event will take place in the Cafferata Suite at Newark Beacon on the morning of November 4th. The judges are yet to be announced.
We need your help
We are currently seeking support from local people and businesses to help make this another successful event of The Grove School – Newark Beacon has already provided the Cafferata Suite free of charge for the final event.
- help in printing posters and leaflets
- a few hours of your time (if your job/organisation has any connections with languages) to be interviewed by the winning team for the school newspaper
- refreshments for the pupils at the judging event
- publicity for our project
If you can help to provide any of the above much needed support for the Grove Language Project, then please contact us on 01636 653030.
