Jo goes back to school

On Wednesday 10th December Jo Small visited The Grove School in Newark to help promote languages to Year 9 students and talk about the advantages that having foreign language skills can bring to the workplace.

The visit was part of Jo’s role as a Business Language Champion for the region and she was joined by Mrs Karen Illsley, the Project Manager for Business Language Champions. Together they talked to four classes of thirteen and fourteen year olds about how languages can be used to improve their job prospects and the advantages that languages bring. The children were certainly interested when they heard that people with good foreign language skills can earn more money.

The Head of Languages, Peter Hutchinson, was pleased with the results and said that the visit “…gave us all a boost and was much appreciated”. The Department is now looking into how Optima Training can further assist in the promotion of languages over the coming terms.

The Grove is a Maintained 11-18 Community Comprehensive School with approximately 1100 students, 80 teachers and 75 ancillary staff.
